Novalie Foundation Commemorates International Menstrual Hygiene Day with Outreach to Empower Girls and Women
Abuja, Nigeria , May 28, 2025
In recognition of International Menstrual Hygiene Day, the Novalie Girl Child and Empowerment Foundation hosted a meaningful outreach program aimed at educating, supporting, and empowering young girls and women on menstrual hygiene and reproductive health. The event, held in Mabushi and Mpape towns in Abuja, reached over 150 beneficiaries with life-enhancing supplies and information.
Themed around dignity, access, and awareness, the outreach focused on breaking taboos surrounding menstruation while equipping girls with the tools and confidence to manage their periods safely and hygienically.
Items Distributed:
• Sanitary Pads
• Panty Liners
• Lady Wipes
• Hand Sanitizers
These essential hygiene products were given freely to young girls and women, many of whom lack consistent access due to financial or social constraints.
Event Highlights:
• Menstrual Health Education: Sessions facilitated by health professionals educated attendees on menstrual hygiene management, debunking myths, and promoting self-care.
• Empowerment Talks: Women leaders and mentors encouraged young girls to embrace their identity, remain confident during menstruation, and advocate for their health rights.
• Community Engagement: The outreach brought together local stakeholders, volunteers, and advocates who shared in the mission to eliminate period poverty and promote equality.
Speaking at the event, Chidimma Makuachukwu, founder of the Novalie Foundation emphasized:
“Menstruation is not a shame; it is strength. Today, we affirm that no girl should ever have to miss school, feel unworthy, or suffer in silence because of her period.”
This outreach is part of Novalie Foundation’s broader goal to create a safer, informed, and empowered future for girls and women across Nigeria. By tackling menstrual stigma and providing basic menstrual products, the foundation champions the right of every girl to manage her period with dignity.
